With a strong and melodic voice, joined to a fiery poetry by his own or from some other great Basque poets, Urko used to mix revolutionary themes with love themes. His first LP came in 1976: &lt;span style="font-style:italic"&gt;Sakonki maite zaitut&lt;/span&gt; (I love you deeply). To this shall follow &lt;span style="font-style:italic"&gt;Hemen gaude! &lt;/span&gt;(Here we are) in 1977, and the great epic song &lt;span style="font-style:italic"&gt;Gure lagunei &lt;/span&gt;(To our companions) in 1978, a large ballad dedicated to two Basque patriots killed by Franco. Song) was a movement of Basque songwriters with the pretension of
vindicate and save Basque language, music and culture, and a
vindication of their land, the so named Euskal Herria (Basque Land/
Basque People). Between this movement, there were collectives as and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Argia &lt;/span&gt;(light) and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Ez dok Amairu&lt;/span&gt; (There's no Thirteen). Between them we can name people as important as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Mikel Laboa&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Lourdes Iriondo&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Benito Lertxundi, Imanol, Lupe, Oskorri... &lt;/span&gt;In
differance of others regionals songwriters movements, Euskal Kanta
Berria used to play the Basque traditional music since the beginnig
with their poems or those from great Basque poets as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Gabriel Aresti&lt;/span&gt;. Within this movement, songwriters &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Antton Valverde, J. A. people, the best songwriter between not only Catalan, but between all
the Spanish songwriters. Influenced by French songwriters, Lluís Llach
came to take part in the collective Setze Jutges (Sixteen Judges) in
1967, being the last of them in come to take part. His songs have words
by himself, but also of great Catalan poets, and some from Greek poet
Konstantino Kavafis. The words of his songs are always very hopeful and
uthopic. About his music, he started playing French and Italian style
music for, later, get more complex musical forms. He has been in active
since last year, when he decided to get out the stage.&lt;br&gt;This one, from his 1972's LP &lt;span style="font-style:italic"&gt;Com un arbre nu&lt;/span&gt; (Like a naked tree), is one of his most imaginative and audacious song by his own, trying to evade censorship. But in the LP's version from 1972, the refrain was: &amp;quot;Visca la revulsió!&amp;quot;, hail to revulsion.&lt;br&gt;&lt;div style="text-align:left"&gt;(2) 1972's version: &lt;span style="font-style:italic"&gt; I don't have nothing like fool&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Els Setze Jutges&lt;/span&gt; (Sixteen Judges) was a Catalan songwriters colective, founded by &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Delfí Abella&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Miquel Porter&lt;/span&gt; and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Josep Mª Espinàs&lt;/span&gt;, among others, for vindicate language and&lt;/span&gt;
poetry of the so called Països Catalans (Catalan Countries): the lands,
in Spain and France, where Catalan is talked, with an antifrancoist
spirit. They decided to use French songwriters' music, specially
Georges Brassens, and no Catalan folklore, because the regime was using
it for demonstrate his power over all the Spanish lands. Between them,
were future important artists as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Joan Manuel Serrat&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;María del Mar Bonet&lt;/span&gt; and her brother &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Joan Ramón&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Rafael Subirachs&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Guillermina Motta&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Francesc Pi de la Serra&lt;/span&gt;, and the last in come in, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Lluís Llach&lt;/span&gt;, and others until complet 16. Songwriter &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Raimon&lt;/span&gt;, in despite the generally believing, was not a part of the collective, but he collaborated with them.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;La Nova Cançó Catalana&lt;/span&gt; (New
Catalan Song) was a very important songwriter movement that pretended,
making of Catalan their expression way, preserve and vindicate the
language of Catalonia. &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Teresa Rebull&lt;/span&gt;, a Civil War exhiled, was the forerunner, but singer &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Raimon&lt;/span&gt; was the real beginner. The movement, principally, had two differents tendences: &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Els Setze Jutges&lt;/span&gt; (Sixteen Judges), inspired by French songwriters, and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;El Grup de Folk&lt;/span&gt;
(Folk Group), North-American folk-singers inspiration. Jutges were more
worried about Catalan poetry and refused to use Catalonia's folklore
due to the populist use that the dictatorship was making with every
Spanish folklore; but Grup de Folk like to combine old Catalans songs
with North-American folk-songs. But in the beginnings of 70s, both were
disolved, but the movement stood. New Catalan Song was imitated by
others regional songwriters movement, borning in this way the New Songs
from Basque Country, Castilia, Galicia, Andalucia... Some of the names

Born in 1851 and dead in 1908, he contribuited to the rebirth of Galician language and to the nationalist feeling of Galicians people. In 1808, was acussed by his recent book, &lt;span style="font-style:italic"&gt;Aires da miña terra&lt;/span&gt; (Winds from my land), for heretic contents. After a time in La Habana, he returned to his land, after to have worked on some newspaper. Republican and Galicianist, his efort and poetry was an example for his people. A lot of Galicians (and no Galicians) poets learned from him, and the most of the Galician songwriters made songs on his poems.&lt;br&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;

&lt;div style="text-align:left"&gt;Benedicto &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt;(Benedicto García Villar) &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt;is one of the best songwriters in Galician language on Spain at he last 60's and swinging 70's. He was one of the founders of the collective &lt;/span&gt;Voces Ceibes&lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt; (Free Voices), a collective of Galician songwriters, leaded by poet Manuel María Fernández, which objective was the vindication of Galician as language, and the culture and literature of Galicia (North-West of Spain). His style, instead his &amp;quot;French-Catalan&amp;quot; beginnings, has a root in Galician folklore. His 1st work was a EP with four songs at the fall of 60s decade, also recitals and concerts by Galicia and Madrid and other places. At the beginning of the 70s decade, he went to Portugal for meeting the great Portuguese songwriter &lt;/span&gt;Jose Afonso&lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt;; since that moment, Benedicto accompany with guitar to Jose Afonso in his tours around Portugal, Paris, Galicia and some other places. In 1974, Benedicto back to Galicia and records his 1st album with the production of Argentine songwriter &lt;/span&gt;Alberto Gambino&lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt;: &lt;/span&gt;&lt;i style="font-weight:normal"&gt;Pola unión &lt;/i&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt;(For the union) released in 1977. To this, will follows &lt;/span&gt;&lt;i style="font-weight:normal"&gt;Os nomes das cousas&lt;/i&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt; (The things names). But later he won't record no more albums, although his career  was very intense. He alternates his own writings with the writings of the greater poets of Galicia as &lt;/span&gt;Celso Emilio Ferreiro&lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt;, &lt;/span&gt;Manuel Curros Enríquez&lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt; or &lt;/span&gt;Manuel Cabada Vázquez&lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt;; also he alternates in the 70's his own music with traditional Galicians ballads. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br style="font-weight:normal"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Nova Canción Galega &lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt;(New Galician Song) was a literary-musical movement of young people who were against Franco's regime and wanted to rescue culture and language of Galicia. In this movement are the collective Voces Ceibes. In the 70's decade, the movement get folklorist attitude, instead many of them rejected it in the beginnings. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br style="font-weight:normal"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;
&lt;div style="text-align:left"&gt;Voces Ceibes &lt;span style="font-weight:normal"&gt;(Free Voices) was the first collective of the Nova Canción Galega. Their objectives were make an opposition to Franco's regime with music and poems of the great all of times Galician poets and make a vindication of Galician culture, language and literature. But they rejected to use Galician folklore due to the illegitimacy use that Franco's regime was making of it as an instrument of cohesion of all the Spanish lands.  Despite of this, in the 70's, they adopted finally the Galician folk-music for making art and vindications.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/span&gt;

to others originals movements as Nova Cançó, Nova Canción and Kanta
Berria, was a kind of publicity trick by some journalist, as an
imitation of Catalan movement. Some of the names that were in that list
were &lt;b&gt;Manolo Díaz&lt;/b&gt;, &lt;b&gt;Luis Eduardo Aute&lt;/b&gt;, &lt;b&gt;Patxi Andión&lt;/b&gt;, successful female singer &lt;b&gt;Massiel&lt;/b&gt;
and others. Although not true at all, most of them were in a
commercial  spirit. Didn't get in the list other interesting
proposition from Castilla and Madrid as Canción del Pueblo or the
folk-singers and folk groups that were appearing. In despite this, most
of them were not to say they belonged to this movement, and each one

Founded by &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Mikel Laboa&lt;/span&gt;, some of their members were &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Benito Lertxundi&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Lourdes Iriondo&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Xabier Lete, Antton Valverde &lt;/span&gt;and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;J. A. Artze&lt;/span&gt;.
Influenced by the Catalan collective Els Setze Jutges (Sixteen Judges),
Ez dok Amairu's finallity was the vindication of Basque language,
music, culture and literature, specially poetry. They were, with
Castilians, Andalucians and Canarians songwriters and folk-groups, the
first in doing songs based on the Basque traditional music, thanks to
the wonderful and elder songs-books legated through the centuries.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Euskal Kanta Berria&lt;/span&gt; (New Basque
Song) was a movement of Basque songwriters with the pretension of
vindicate and save Basque language, music and culture, and a
vindication of their land, the so named Euskal Herria (Basque Land/
Basque People). Between this movement, there were collectives as and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Argia &lt;/span&gt;(light) and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Ez dok Amairu&lt;/span&gt; (There's no Thirteen). Between them we can name people as important as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Mikel Laboa&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Lourdes Iriondo&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Benito Lertxundi, Imanol, Lupe, Oskorri... &lt;/span&gt;In
differance of others regionals songwriters movements, Euskal Kanta
Berria used to play the Basque traditional music since the beginnig
with their poems or those from great Basque poets as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Gabriel Aresti&lt;/span&gt;. Within this movement, songwriters &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Antton Valverde, J. A. poets in Spanish language. Born in Zamora in 1884, he came to poetry at
the age of 31. He also translated the work of Walt Whitman to Spanish.
His poetry work has a well defined themes and symbols: as themes, there
always present a great worry about justice, inside a kind of anarchyst
thinking, and a great affinity with the humble people. These themes
make that León Felipe colaborates in the intllectual front of the
Spanish Republic during the Civil War, although he was in America. As
symbols, he adopted two well specifically: don Quixote and Christ, he
makes both be in one under the idea of universal justice. After war, he
makes a hard resistance against Franco's regime through his poetry from
his stance at Mexico, where he died in 1968. During the Regime's years,
the Spanish youth took his poems, instead they were prohibited some
time, as a symbol of resistance, and a lot of songwritters and
folk-groups, as Paco Ibáñez, Adolfo Celdrán or Aguaviva, made songs

Having a Basque origins, he grows in Madrid, where he makes all his career. Beloved of the French songwriters music, he went to France to perform; there he mets great songwriter and integral artist &lt;b&gt;Jacques Brel&lt;/b&gt;. In Madrid, he began to record EPs in 1968: &amp;quot;Rogelio&amp;quot;, &amp;quot;Manuela&amp;quot;, &amp;quot;A quien corresponda&amp;quot; (to whom it may concern)... All of them in a French style. With his LPs he get closer to a kind of pop music, but still with a tremendous poetry by his own. If we could define Patxi in a word, this should be individualist. Patxi's poetry, influenced by Lorca, Miguel Hernández, Machado, etc., is one of the most originals and powerful in the Castilian songwriter movement. Some of their LPs are &lt;i&gt;Joxe Maria Iparragirre&lt;/i&gt; (his unique LP in Basque), based upon the poems of Basque poet Joxe Maria Iparragirre; &lt;i&gt;Once canciones entre paréntesis&lt;/i&gt; (Eleven songs between parenthesis) and &lt;i&gt;A donde el agua &lt;/i&gt;(where the water), from which is this song.&lt;br&gt;Patxi Andión's &amp;quot;El maestro&amp;quot; speaks us about a kind of character: during the 2nd Spanish Republic, thanks to institutions as the Free Teaching Institution (Institución Libre de Enseñanza), a new  kind of teachers came to replace priests in teaching: they were worried about the number of illiterate people in rural world, and he were decide to teach to read, science, literature... all this with a humanist and lay spirit. But civil war and dictatorship, due to the sympathy by them to Republic, dash all of his project. With Franco's dictatorship, priests came back to teaching. In Spanish, the word  &amp;quot;pueblo&amp;quot; has two principal meanings: first, &amp;quot;pueblo&amp;quot; as village, and second, as people.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;2. The priest, the mayor and the cape: after civil war, the local authorities of the villages were 3, following the francoist ideology. The priest, obviously, was the Spanish church's representative; the mayor was member of the unique party: FET-JONS (Traditionalist Spanish Phalanx - National-Syndicalist  Offensive Junta -Falange Española Tradicionalista - Juntas de Ofensiva Nacional-Sindicalista-, what was the result of join FE-JONS and the Traditionalist Party): so he was the representative of the civil/ political power. Although he never has made songs which could be considerated as anthems, his personal and political positions made of him a non-grata person for regime, to the point of not to let him back to his country by his critics to the last Franco's executions. Catalan Song) was a very important songwriter movement that pretended,
making of Catalan their expression way, preserve and vindicate the
language of Catalonia. &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Teresa Rebull&lt;/span&gt;, a Civil War exhiled, was the forerunner, but singer &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Raimon&lt;/span&gt; was the real beginner. The movement, principally, had two differents tendences: &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Els Setze Jutges&lt;/span&gt; (Sixteen Judges), inspired by French songwriters, and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;El Grup de Folk&lt;/span&gt;
(Folk Group), North-American folk-singers inspiration. Jutges were more
worried about Catalan poetry and refused to use Catalonia's folklore
due to the populist use that the dictatorship was making with every
Spanish folklore; but Grup de Folk like to combine old Catalans songs
with North-American folk-songs. But in the beginnings of 70s, both were
disolved, but the movement stood. New Catalan Song was imitated by
others regional songwriters movement, borning in this way the New Songs
from Basque Country, Castilia, Galicia, Andalucia... Some of the names
of this movements are songwriters as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Raimon,
Lluís Llach, María del Mar Bonet, Pau Riba, Marina Rossell, Joan Manuel
Serrat, Albert Batiste, Pi de la Serra, Ovidi Montllor; &lt;/span&gt;folk-groups as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Al Tall&lt;/span&gt; and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;UC&lt;/span&gt;; folk-rock groups as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Falsterbo 3 &lt;/span&gt;and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Esquirols&lt;/span&gt;; and progresive and psychedelic rock bands as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Companya Elèctrica Dharma &lt;/span&gt;or &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Maquina!... &lt;/span&gt;among others.  &lt;/font&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;font size=3&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Els Setze Jutges&lt;/span&gt; (Sixteen Judges) was a Catalan songwriters collective, founded by &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Delfí Abella&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Miquel Porter&lt;/span&gt; and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Josep Mª Espinàs&lt;/span&gt;, among others, for vindicate language and&lt;/span&gt;
poetry of the so called Països Catalans (Catalan Countries): the lands,
in Spain, Andorra and France, where Catalan is talked, with an antifrancoist
spirit. They decided to use French songwriters' music, specially
Georges Brassens, and no Catalan folklore, because the regime was using
it for demonstrate his power over all the Spanish lands. Between them,
were future important artists as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Joan Manuel Serrat&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;María del Mar Bonet&lt;/span&gt; and her brother &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Joan Ramón&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Rafael Subirachs&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Guillermina Motta&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Francesc Pi de la Serra&lt;/span&gt;, and the last in come in, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Lluís Llach&lt;/span&gt;, and others until complete 16. best songwriter in Spain, as of Catalan as the of the others Spanish
songwriters. Anyway, one thing that is true, it's that Raimon was and
is a symbol of many dimensions of the anti-francoist resistance. With
Paco Ibáñez and Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio, and with the precedent of
Teresa Rebull, Raimon was the first in singing author's songs in
Catalan and in whole Spain, and also the first in making songs over the
great Catalan poets' poems. Raimon came from Jativa (Cat. Xátiva; Sp.
Játiva), province of Valencia, to Barcelona for singing. His first
songs, as &amp;quot;Al vent&amp;quot; (To the wind) or &amp;quot;Diguem no&amp;quot; (Let's say no) maybe
are still, with 18 years old, a very simple songs, but really vehement,
with his peculiar powerful tone of voice. After some performances in
tv, recitals and festivals, and also some great adventures, as to give
an illegal recital in the Complutense University's Economic Science
faculty, regime's censure machinery look down on him, at the same time
that people from all Spain take his songs as battle anthems, and he
became a symbol, while also get international fame, specially in
France, but also in USA, Japan, Italy... Although he was no a former,
he collaborated with the songwriters Catalan collective Setze Jutges
(Sixteen Judges). Despite all this, Raimon is more than a political
singer: he sang songs about fear, about man, about peace, love,
friendship, and return to Catalan people (and to the rest of Spain) the
great Catalan poetry: from XVI's, as Joan Timoneda or Ausiàs March, to
contemporary as Pere Quart or, his favourite, Salvador Espriu.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align:left"&gt;This song is one of his first songs. making of Catalan their expression way, preserve and vindicate the
language of Catalonia. &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Teresa Rebull&lt;/span&gt;, a Civil War exhiled, was the forerunner, but singer &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Raimon&lt;/span&gt; was the real beginner. The movement, principally, had two differents tendences: &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Els Setze Jutges&lt;/span&gt; (Sixteen Judges), inspired by French songwriters, and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;El Grup de Folk&lt;/span&gt;
(Folk Group), North-American folk-singers inspiration. Jutges were more
worried about Catalan poetry and refused to use Catalonia's folklore
due to the populist use that the dictatorship was making with every
Spanish folklore; but Grup de Folk like to combine old Catalans songs
with North-American folk-songs. But in the beginnings of 70s, both were
disolved, but the movement stood. New Catalan Song was imitated by
others regional songwriters movement, borning in this way the New Songs
from Basque Country, Castilia, Galicia, Andalucia... Some of the names
of this movements are songwriters as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Raimon,
Lluís Llach, María del Mar Bonet, Pau Riba, Marina Rossell, Joan Manuel

He was one of the younger first members of the Catalans songwriters collective &lt;i&gt;Els Setze Jutges. &lt;/i&gt;With a poetry very inspired on French songwriters, specially Georges Brassens, Quico's music is very progressive and imaginative: his first LP was recorded with jazz music. Later he introduced in Spain a more actual music during the 70s. His words have been definite as bittersweet, making parodies about politic, high and middle class, relating events that were happening in the 70s, but also tremendously serious songs.&lt;br&gt;This song belongs to the LP  that he recorded with Balear songwriter María del Mar Bonet, &lt;i&gt;Quico i María del Mar. &lt;/i&gt;This is a very satirical and funny song: Spain, traditionally, has been a very religious country. Priests and nuns has been always the persons in charge of teachers, always watching for national morality. Since Franco's victory in the year 1939, priests and very religious people (as the so known Opus Dei) get powers in many fields, censorship specially; the francoist regime practiced the thesis of the national-catholicism: the union of church and state (under Franco, of course), which is considerate by them as a sacred and eternal union. This song ridicules the integrism of the Spanish catholic church. Catalan Song) was a very important songwriter movement that pretended,
making of Catalan their expression way, preserve and vindicate the
language of Catalonia. &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Teresa Rebull&lt;/span&gt;, a Civil War exhiled, was the forerunner, but singer &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Raimon&lt;/span&gt; was the real beginner. The movement, principally, had two differents tendences: &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Els Setze Jutges&lt;/span&gt; (Sixteen Judges), inspired by French songwriters, and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;El Grup de Folk&lt;/span&gt;
(Folk Group), North-American folk-singers inspiration. Jutges were more
worried about Catalan poetry and refused to use Catalonia's folklore
due to the populist use that the dictatorship was making with every
Spanish folklore; but Grup de Folk like to combine old Catalans songs
with North-American folk-songs. But in the beginnings of 70s, both were
disolved, but the movement stood. New Catalan Song was imitated by
others regional songwriters movement, borning in this way the New Songs
from Basque Country, Castilia, Galicia, Andalucia... Some of the names
of this movements are songwriters as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Raimon,
Lluís Llach, María del Mar Bonet, Pau Riba, Marina Rossell, Joan Manuel

poetry of the so called Països Catalans (Catalan Countries): the lands,
in Spain, Andorra and France, where Catalan is talked, with an antifrancoist
spirit. They decided to use French songwriters' music, specially
Georges Brassens, and no Catalan folklore, because the regime was using
it for demonstrate his power over all the Spanish lands. Between them,
were future important artists as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Joan Manuel Serrat&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;María del Mar Bonet&lt;/span&gt; and her brother &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Joan Ramón&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Rafael Subirachs&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Guillermina Motta&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Francesc Pi de la Serra&lt;/span&gt;, and the last in come in, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Lluís Llach&lt;/span&gt;, and others until complete 16. best songwriter in Spain, as of Catalan as the of the others Spanish
songwriters. Anyway, one thing that is true, it's that Raimon was and
is a symbol of many dimensions of the anti-francoist resistance. With
Paco Ibáñez and Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio, and with the precedent of
Teresa Rebull, Raimon was the first in singing author's songs in
Catalan and in whole Spain, and also the first in making songs over the
great Catalan poets' poems. Raimon came from Jativa (Cat. Xátiva; Sp.
Játiva), province of Valencia, to Barcelona for singing. His first
songs, as &amp;quot;Al vent&amp;quot; (To the wind) or &amp;quot;Diguem no&amp;quot; (Let's say no) maybe
are still, with 18 years old, a very simple songs, but really vehement,
with his peculiar powerful tone of voice. After some performances in
tv, recitals and festivals, and also some great adventures, as to give
an illegal recital in the Complutense University's Economic Science
faculty, regime's censure machinery look down on him, at the same time
that people from all Spain take his songs as battle anthems, and he
became a symbol, while also get international fame, specially in
France, but also in USA, Japan, Italy... Although he was no a former,
he collaborated with the songwriters Catalan collective Setze Jutges
(Sixteen Judges). Despite all this, Raimon is more than a political
singer: he sang songs about fear, about man, about peace, love,
friendship, and return to Catalan people (and to the rest of Spain) the
great Catalan poetry: from XVI's, as Joan Timoneda or Ausiàs March, to

Catalan Song) was a very important songwriter movement that pretended,
making of Catalan their expression way, preserve and vindicate the
language of Catalonia. &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Teresa Rebull&lt;/span&gt;, a Civil War exhiled, was the forerunner, but singer &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Raimon&lt;/span&gt; was the real beginner. The movement, principally, had two differents tendences: &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Els Setze Jutges&lt;/span&gt; (Sixteen Judges), inspired by French songwriters, and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;El Grup de Folk&lt;/span&gt;
(Folk Group), North-American folk-singers inspiration. Jutges were more
worried about Catalan poetry and refused to use Catalonia's folklore
due to the populist use that the dictatorship was making with every
Spanish folklore; but Grup de Folk like to combine old Catalans songs
with North-American folk-songs. But in the beginnings of 70s, both were
disolved, but the movement stood. New Catalan Song was imitated by
others regional songwriters movement, borning in this way the New Songs
from Basque Country, Castilia, Galicia, Andalucia... Some of the names
of this movements are songwriters as &lt;span style="font-weight:bold"&gt;Raimon,
Lluís Llach, María del Mar Bonet, Pau Riba, Marina Rossell, Joan Manuel
